Essay on Alcoholism and its Dangers

For it is said that your manhood can be measured by the number of bottles you have emptied, you bravely take those long, giant swigs of beer and tequila down to the bottom. Now you think you’re man enough. After all your buddies have left the bar (or passed out eventually), you decided to go home and made your way to the parking lot in the most zigzag motion the earth has ever seen. Then you found your two-wheeler, took out your key (dropped it a couple of times) and successfully turned on the motor. Just because of your hazy mind, you forgot to wear your helmet. You pressed the accelerator and off you go. Now that’s the last and only thing that you will remember when you wake up days after, in a white room full with people donned in white.

But you’re not in heaven (if you really think you deserve those little halos); at least just yet. You are in a hospital bed, with your head bandaged after a major surgery and your body full of nasty cuts and bruises. Yes, you had an accident and you were very lucky to survive. Yours is just one of the rampant cases of accidents related directly to the excessive ingestion of alcoholic drinks.

It is socially acceptable that we drink occasionally with friends and family, that’s just normal. However, when it comes too much too often, it results to a habit so hard to break – alcoholism. Later on, you become more and more dependent that you feel it an incomplete day without a swig or two of your favorite drink. You begin carrying hard liquors and flasks, and became a daily visitor to the hippest bars in the city. You have become addicted to it that every single day, you are drunk.

Harmful Effects of Alcohol

If you are still unaware of it, excessive and long term drinking poses major threats to your health and entire bod system. Serious diseases such as hepatitis, hypertension and kidney failure are a common dilemma to chronic alcoholics because alcohol causes progressive damages to the liver, kidney, stomach, and other related organs. Alcoholism also leads to slow mental and motor responses, which is the main cause of accidents and sudden death.
It is really hard shaking off this habit. However, if you care for your health and the lives that you might put in danger, it is never too late to quit. Gather that will and stop yourself before any of the above happens. You are responsible for your own well-being.
